MBBS Counselling

This is Why Parents Panic During MBBS Counselling!

“This is Why Parents Panic During MBBS Counselling!”

Clearing NEET is just the tip of the Iceberg, as students get ready for the counselling process, their main focus is on securing a seat and managing tuition fees. However, the counselling process has a series of hidden costs, and many families remain unaware of the additional financial burdens associated with it. From deposits to documentation to travel, these unexpected expenses can catch families off guard.

Don’t worry- we’ve broken it all down for you, step by step.

1. Counselling Registration & Security Deposits

To even start the counselling process, you’ll need to pay a non-refundable registration fee (usually ₹1,000–₹5,000). Then comes the security deposit — this amount is refundable, but the rate changes based on the type of college you apply to:

₹10,000 for AIQ Govt colleges

₹1,00,000 for Deemed Universities

₹2,00,000 in many state counselling processes

If you decide not to join the seat allotted to you, there’s a very slight chance that you will get the fee back.

2. Travel and Accommodation for being at reporting, literally.

Once you get a seat, you’ll likely have to travel to the college for admission and document checks. That’s when hidden costs pop up — tickets, hotel bookings, meals, and cab fares.
And remember: if there are multiple rounds, you’ll be making this trip more than once. Many counselling processes require candidates to physically report to the allotted college for admission formalities. This means additional expenses such as:

.Travel (train, bus, or flight)
.Temporary accommodation
.Meals and local transportation
. These costs increase significantly if a student changes colleges in later rounds.

3. Applicants must arrange several verified and notarised documents for admission:

. Multiple attested copies of mark sheets, ID, and certificates
. Legally notarised affidavits, especially for anti-ragging and gap years
. Official government-issued domicile, caste, and migration certificates (freshly issued in many cases)
. Around 15–20 passport-sized photographs

Even though these aren’t large expenses individually, together they can significantly affect your budget.

Hidden College Costs You Should Know!

. Uniform & lab coat fees

. Library and ID card charges

 . Miscellaneous development fee

. Hostel security (refundable or not!)

. First-year fee demanded immediately

Always ask for a detailed fee breakup before joining.

Final Tip:-

Please ensure you thoroughly go through the counselling brochure to avoid any confusion.

Contact the allotted college beforehand to verify requirements. Set aside an emergency fund (₹20,000–₹50,000) for any unexpected fees or essentials.
Preparation is key to a smooth, stress-free admission process.
